γ-graphyne: A promising electron acceptor for organic photovoltaics

The search for new materials is constantly ongoing. Recently, a two-dimensional carbon allotrope , γ-graphyne, has been synthesized with unified crystalline structure . Because of its low LUMO and excellent electron mobility, it appears to be promising acceptor photovoltaic applications. Here we report an analysis the electronic properties model van der Waals complexes γ-graphyne several partners different nature. We show that photoinduced transfer from electron-donating favorable occurs on nano picosecond time scale. In contrast, strong acceptors unlikely. Our results open perspectives future application in devices.

An N-ethylated barbituric acid end-capped bithiophene as an electron-acceptor material in fullerene-free organic photovoltaics.

A new evaporable electron acceptor material for organic photovoltaics based on N-ethyl barbituric acid bithiophene (EBB) has been demonstrated.
